Raymond Campbell
British still life artist
(b.1956) Surrey, England
Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy (1993)
As a highly regarded British still life artist, Raymond Campbell is most recognised for his curious paraphernalia arrangements, reminiscent of the 17th Century Dutch painters. These unique tableaux can be identified by their detailed precision and classically “Campbell-esque” contents including vintage wine bottles and sepia photographs.
Initially turning down the chance of formal training at art school, Campbell’s notable talent led him to become a full-time professional artist at the age of twenty-two. Before becoming professional he travelled throughout Europe aiming to study the paintings and techniques of the Old Masters. It was the still life paintings of the 17th Century Dutch painters that he became captivated by and reflected in his recently recognised body of still life work.
Campbell is a published artist, with many of his original works available as limited edition and open edition prints. His works “Gamble” and “Lost” are among pieces which have been exhibited at The Summer Exhibition at The Royal Academy, London. He has also exhibited at The Mall Galleries, London and his work can be found in many international private collections, including the USA, Australia and across Europe.
